What is the difference between Xenon and LED Flashlights?
Xenon and LED refer to the lamp assembly type in the flashlight.
Xenon Lamps use a light emitting filament that is heated by the electricity from the battery. The filament heats up to very high temperatures producing the white light. The Xenon gas allows the filament to burn hotter to provide extremely high light output.
LED is the acronym for Light Emitting Diode. The LED converts the electricity directly into light without use of a filament. The differences between Xenon Lamps and LEDs are the, light output or lumens, battery run time, lamp run time and purchase cost.
Price.
Xenon Lamp Flashlights are less expensive than LED Lamps due to the high cost of the LED. While many companies sell low priced LEDs, We uses superior quality LEDs that produce higher lumen output and have longer lamp run time. Compare our 1-watt, 3-watt and 5-watt LED lights to competitive products. They are the highest light output and lamp life at a fair price.
Light Output.
Light output is measured in Lumens and can vary greatly. Xenon lamps have a lumen output of 80 and 120 lumens. LED lights have lumen output of 35, 65, and 120 lumens. Except for the 3 battery models, Xenon¡¯s have more light output than LEDs for equal size lights.
Battery Run time.
LEDs provide significantly longer run times than Xenon lights. An example is the 5 watt LED and the 9 volt Xenon. Both use 3 batteries and have 120 lumen output while the LED has a 3.5 hour run time versus the Xenon¡¯s 90 minutes.
Lamp Run Time.
Like battery run time, LEDs provide significantly longer Lamp Run Time. All Stryker LED lamps have a run time of 100,000 hours versus 20 hours for Xenon lamps.
